My assistant is pushing me for a raise lately. She has been with the company about a year now, and she has been given more and more responsibility as she has shown herself worthy. I have been pleased with her work, as have others in the company, and we're happy to have her on board. She's a smart girl, she has a degree from some University in her home country, but I think that the work she does now is unfulfilling to her. She has mentioned that maybe she would like to pursue something in accounting, to which I replied that the company is always looking for accountants, especially if they're familiar with our operations already.
I know that in her home country she was some sort of semi-celebrity. Unfortunately for her in America she's just another immigrant. I think that what she is paid now is a decent wage, especially considering her skills in English, but I also understand her wanting more dough. Who doesn't want to be paid more? I have told her that when she gets back from her vacation next month I will revisit the issue with her and we will work something out. If it is not to her liking then I will be sorry to see her go, but she is replaceable. The work she does is difficult, but not impossible for someone else to learn to do.
