New Directions, New Faces
Recently we added a whole host of new folks to our roster. What began as two has quickly ballooned. Most of these faces are in sales, but two (at present count) are in management. These guys have a tall order to fill.
The reverberations down the line have been taken a little roughly. Our chief operating officer (whom I respect a great deal despite her somewhat obstructionist attitude) is, I think, feeling a little threatened. She still holds a great amount of pull (and respect) but I don't think she liked her title being assumed by the new faces, and so recently she's been making flash-point decisions. I think she did this to flex her management muscle. It has not been well received in some portions of the organization.
For one, I am welcoming these guys (and the promises of efficiency/productivity they are expected to deliver on). Today I had a meeting where the
new COO thanked me for making a decision about a conflict of interest issue one of the new sales people had (there's
a lot more to this story, which I may write about later). It was a genuine show of appreciation, and one boosted by the fact that I had helped participate in making. In the future I plan on working more closely with this guy and establishing a closer relationship, it can only be beneficial.
