Tournament of Kings

Last nite was my birthday so after work Anonymous Soon-to-be-Wife and I went to the Excalibur to see
The Tournament of Kings. Now, I'm a big dork so these sorts of things innately appeal to me. Horses? Jousting? A midget? Eating without utensils? YES!! I still want to go to a real
Medieval Times. Someday ...
But I must report I was alittle underwhelmed by my TOK expereince at the Excalibur. The food was decent, and we had good seats, but the whole thing was lacking something. Perhaps it was because we were there mid-week and at the late show (8:30). I dunno. But there just wasn't really an energy in the room, this was probably somewhat attributable to the fact that the room (which could hold over 1000) was not filled-- not even close.
I was also kind of shocked by (what I felt was) the blatant homoeroticism of the show. Buff dudes in no shirts with tight leather pants on? Why were they there? They served no real purpose. There was this Fabio look-a-like that just cracked me up. He was sucking in his stomach the whole time. All the shirtless guys did was kneel by the king. They can lose the shirtless guys. That's not necessary and thematically it doesn't propel the production.
The tumblers were cool. They were gymanists, probably about 9 of them, and they did some impressive routines. I liked it.
The midget was also very cool. He was funny. I'd give him the highest rating for the night. Good job, little man. You really made the show.
