News from The Front
So a lot of moving and shaking has been taking place on company ground.
First we had the shake up involving the new managers that were brought on with hefty price tags. These two guys joined the group with big plans and were being written big checks accordingly. Apparently the senior of the two was pretty valuable to his old organization and was tempted back to that old post, at a substantial increase to his compensation from the previous employer. The number he garnered from them made my eyes bulge, and I don't blame him for jumping ship. At his age every year counts, so why not? It was a good deal.
The next attrition we saw was one of the sales team personally recruited by the managers mentioned
supra. This guy was always a snake in the grass but he was a closer and a hot gun so he was worth the risk (I suppose). There were disputes from the get-go about the terms of his employment and what he could/could not do on the side with his own pre-existing enterprise. I made it clear from day one that conflicts of interest were abundant and that the sad, hard fact was that he could walk at any time to seek gainful employment elsewhere. This was tied to the initial promise he had been made to come aboard in the first place and how he was getting screwed, blah, blah, blah. He eventually took our offer and then turned around and breached the terms in a major way. I for one was not surprised when I learned of it. That's the insight you get when you're in the midst of the fray and yet on the outside at the same time.
In other news, we got a new boardroom table. I should say new boardroom coffee table, 'cause man is this a weak excuse for a boardroom conference table. We have ten chairs and they *barely* squeeze all around it. What is that all about? The table is not even real wood, its the same formica/plastic crap that our desks are topped with. I guess I should not complain because for the longest time we've had *no* table and thus have been forced to sit on the ground or stand during every meeting.
